Suitable for motor yachts up to 2.50 m vertical clearance. Not suitable for beginners.
Until recently, it was not possible to travel the northern part of this route by boat. This section has now been constructed in such a way that it is navigable for boats that measure a maximum depth of 1.30 m and a maximum height of 2.50 m. On skates, the northern part of the route is ‘the hell of the north’, but in good weather it is ‘heaven on earth’, as you then have a view of the endless fields and meadows for miles and can experience this route under a constantly changing cloud cover. The cozy (terp) villages invite you to regularly leave the boat and explore the surroundings of the Elfstedenroute. As the area offers you a variety of cycling and hiking routes, don’t forget to take your bike and hiking boots on board.
A nice detail is that, just like the ice skaters, you can also get a stamp in all eleven cities. The stamp card is available at the tourist office (VVV) for a small fee. The stamps can be obtained at the tourist office and/or restaurants in the area. With the full card you can pick up the certificate at the tourist office in Leeuwarden.
